Nicolas Cage And Thomas Jane Lead Story Of US Naval Disaster

I stumbled across a trailer this morning for a film that I've heard nothing about… yet it is said to have opened last weekend… in the Philippines. It's called USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage and if you're a fan of the movie Jaws, then you might remember Quint talking about it in the movie.

The Indianapolis is one of the great tragedies in US Naval history. It was on a secret mission without escort to deliver parts for America's first atomic weapons to an airbase in Tinian. But on the return voyage, Japanese submarines sank the Indianapolis and its 1100 plus man crew into the Pacific Ocean. It was four days until they were rescued and after dealing with bad weather, dehydration and sharks, only 316 men survived.

Well, the new film has an interesting cast as it stars Nicholas Cage, Tom Sizemore and Thomas Jane. It's directed by Mario Van Peebles and had a budge of $40 Million. Cage isn't exactly a box office draw anymore after a few less-than-successful choices, so casting him as Captain McVay is an interesting choice. I could find nothing about a US release date… so it may be a straight to On-Demand / Blu ray.
