EVE Online Is Going Free-To-Play After 13 Years Of Subscriptions

EVE Online is a hulking monster that I love reading about, but is so massive and with real life stakes, that it's not something I want to engage in on a personal level. Still, it's one of the most fascinating pieces of entertainment software ever made, that's for sure.

And CCP have mad a huge announcement today. After 13 years of being subscription based, the game is adding a free-to-play option for new players. It is part of a feature called Clone States and is coming November 2016. In a press release it said:

any past, present, or future players join the EVEuniverse and fly amongst its thousands of solar systems and wormholes for free, forever.

However, there will be quite a lot of constraints if you decide to go free. Your skill progression will have less options and progress much slower. They also won't have the same access to ships as subscription players have either.

Still, it is great that this option will be available for those brave enough to dive into the universe run by money, politics and faction wars without an initial buy in.
