EA Have Seemingly Walked Back Rumours Of Mass Effect Remasters After Previously Giving Hope

EA said a while ago, that it wouldn't be looking towards remasters of Mass Effect, making a lot of fans sad. Then, but a few weeks ago, boss Patrick Soderlund let on that they may have reconsidered thanks to demand. And now… well, it seems they have reverted back to their original messaging.

Speaking to IGN, EA exec Peter Moore said during a long video interview that the company is looking towards the future now, and that they want to focus on the upcoming Andromeda, rather than remaster the original trilogy. In the interview he said:

Can we make an easy buck on remastering Mass Effect? Yes. Have a thousand people asked me that? Yes, they have.

We feel like we want to go forward. There's a little thing called Mass Effect: Andromeda that we're totally focused on at BioWare and it's gonna be magnificent.

He then went on to say that the publisher doesn't exactly have devs sitting around doing nothing, before reiterating that the company wants to develop new IP.

Do we have teams lying around that are doing nothing right now? No, we don't. We want to focus on the future, delivering new IP and new experiences. There's easy money to be made in this industry, but the real focus should be on being player-first and focused on delivering new IP and new experiences and that's where our real focus is.

This is a weird one. First of all, EA's messaging seems to be a little all over the place. Maybe Moore is trying to put a genie back in a bottle for a later surprise. Maybe Patrick Soderlund had it wrong when he hinted a remaster was possible. Maybe it's not been decided and the two have different positions. Hard to tell what is going on here in all honesty, but I know if generally, remasters are met with a little indifference, and a lot of people are asking, it might be worth acquiescing. Just this once.
