Half Of Comic Creators Plan To Launch A Patreon Appeal In The Next Year

We've run two stories about comic creators running Patreon funding initiatives this weekend. As use of the social media funding service becomes increasingly common, Tyler James of ComixTribe is running a survey. And he has some findings already. He writes,

While I'm hoping to get at least another 50 or so surveys before the month is over, some things are already clear.

Here's an advanced preview of just a few of my findings…

1. Most of us are not on Patreon yet… as creators, or as Patrons.

Only a little more than 1/3 of the creators surveyed are currently supporting other creators on Patreon, and less than a quarter have Patreons right now.

2. Despite that, a little more than half of the creators surveyed say it's somewhat or highly likely they'll launch a Patreon in the next year.

3. What's holding most creators back from launching a Patreon appears to be the fear that they don't have a project worthy of the platform or an audience big enough to make it worth their time.

4. The biggest struggle for creators with Patreon projects appears to be finding the time to create content to both reward Patrons and encourage the support of new Patrons.

I don't know about you, but I find this stuff fascinating. The survey will be open until the end of the month, when I'll be pulling two names at random to receive $25 Amazon Gift Cards.

If you'd like to lend your voice, please do.

I'm working on some things to help with that whole "building an audience" issue that seems to be of concern to oh, say, EVERYONE. Stay tuned.
