Just 1 Way Brexit Made Loot Crate Unaffordable In The UK
When Britain voted to leave the European Union, the price of pound sterling plunged. Instantly, Britain was cut price. There was a fire sale and China, Russia, and the Arab Emirates went on a property-buying spree.
but the crashing blue of the pound had other effects on the British geek-based economy. The price of comic books shot up, imported mostly as they were from the USA. Basically, anything being imported from the States suddenly cost Brits about another 15-20%.
Including Loot Crate, the monthly subscription box that has an international audience. But there was worse to come.
You see, British customs charges a 20% sales tax on taxable goods coming to the country over £15 worth. And previous to Brexit, standard Loot Crates priced at $19.95 used to breeze through, valued at around £12-£13.
But after Brexit, the exchange rate is now 76 pence to the dollar. Which means the Loot Crate is now valued at £15.17. Seventeen pence over the threshold. And for that seventeen pence, British Loot Crate purchasers must pay sales tax of £3.04 and a Royal Mail charge of £8, adding over £11 to the price.
Looks like Zavvi's UK based Zbox just got game…
Thanks to Kris for a couple of typo checks.
