Hugh Sheridan writes,

The cast of The Last Man On Earth – Will Forte, Kirsten Schaal, January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Steenburgen and Cleoptara Coleman were all present for a panel on the series at SDCC last night.

They were very reluctant to reveal any spoilers from the upcoming third season, but they answered a lot of questions and joked around a lot.

Forte was first asked about having half his hair and beard shaved off for the series. He said it was "something I came up with in the shower" and that he didn't mind looking so strange for a couple of months.

The highlight was when "Helen Mirren kissed the bald part of my head at the Critic's Choice awards" he said . "I don't think she knew who I was, but it was so great".

Kirsten Schaal was asked about her "aborted 3-way" love scene with both Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis.

"It was a dream come true for me" she deadpanned "I was disappointed when it ended I could have filmed that scene for a year"

Steenburgen said her favorite part of the job for her was all the wine drinking "I can't say all the kissing because Mr. Danson is only a half hour away" (her husband is former Cheers actor Ted Danson).

At this point Steenburgen started rapping her (very accurate) rendition of Snow's Informer song at her cast mate's urging.

Forte told of how he first met Rodriguez on the film production The Watch" The two had a lot of time on set together and they both got to discussing how neither had ever been to a Chick-fil-A and they both really wanted to go.

So they drove around one night trying to find an open Chick-fil-A restaurant, but they were all closed. They agreed to meet up again and try to experience the food for the first time together.

"Then a few days later when Mel picked me up to go, I get in to his car and the seats are like full of Chick-fil-A wrappers". He said he cast him "despite this betrayal".

The cast was asked where they would go if they were the last people on earth

Cleopatra Jones: "Area 51"

Steenburgen: "Hana, Hawaii"

Forte: "I kind of like my house a lot"

Jones: "My house too; I hate it when I have to leave"

Schaal: "January's house definitely"

A kid asked Forte "why are you such a skunk?"

Forte responded, in character, "Little twerp! why are you such a twerp?"

The cast was asked if they knew how any of their previous roles would respond to the circumstances of the series?

"Well Phil Miller is MacGruber really" said Forte, to a huge crowd response "they are both idiots, so he would do the same things"

Jones said Betty Draper (from her previous series Mad Men) "would smoke and drink a lot"

"so no big change there" she joked.

A questioner asked how they chose which characters to kill off?

"It's really just who crosses Will" said Schaal "and I have been pushing it today" she said as Forte looked at her angrily.

Forte was asked "how can you keep introducing new characters to a show called The Last Man On Earth"

Forte said that it was a question he gets asked a lot and his response is "Have you ever heard of the movie Rocky? Are there any other characters in that movie besides Rocky?"

Forte said that there will be 3 new characters in the next season –Mark Boone Junior as the previously introduced "Pat" (he of the hazmat suit and the yacht) as well as two others. One of them is an actor who they are "very excited to have in the show" but they "can't tell you who it is".

As the panel ended Forte was asked to describe Season 3 in 3 words "Totally. Friggin. Awesome." he said.
