DC's First Week Of August Advance Orders, As Big As All Of April

rebirthgroupIn April 2016, DC Comics;' marketshare had While DC Comics' dollar share has slipped back slightly from March's 26.32% to 25.82% and their sales share had also slipped slightly from 25.94% to 25.13%. Basically, one in every four comics sold in a comic store was a DC comic.

Today, at San Diego Comic Con, co-publisher Dan DiDio announced that their advance sales for the first week of August 2016 were nearly as big as for all of August. That's almost four times the size.

Which, all things being equal, that means in August, over one in every two comics could be a DC Comic.

Things won't be equal of course. But expect that marketshare dial to shift suddenly in upcoming months.

Co-publisher Jim Lee has also stated that second issues of the Rebirth titles in some case have been outselling the first issues as retailers catch up with demand.

And they are also starting to make more decisions based on the trade paperback market in bookstores p- which is why a title cancelled for relatively poor comic book sales, Midnighter by Steve Orlando and ACO is being revived as Midnighter And Apollo after it did far better in bookstores than was expected.

And while the TV shows haven't lifted the periodical titles for DC Comics as much, they have really affected the sales of the collections. But it's the standard versions rather than those based on the TV shows that are getting the attention…
