At the BD Festival in Contern, Luxembourg last weekend, it was announced that British comic book artist Mike Perkins would be the President for the festival next year, for its 24th year. He will succeed Marcel Uderzo, the brother of the Asterix creator and a cartoonist in his own right.

Veteran in comic books, Mike Perkins recently launched the new Carnage series for Marvel as well as Rowan's Ruin with Mike Carey for Boom, but has a long history across the industry.

The Luxembourg equivalent of Angouleme, the comic book festival sees the town of Contern cut off to traffic during the convention and the whole village becomes the festival – with stalls, kids activities etc filling the streets. You can see a German TV report here – with subtitles that translate nicely.

He will be the first primarily English speaking President of the festival in its history. As president, Mike will have responsibilities including interviews and panels as well as recommending guests for 2017…

Here is Mike and family in front of the poster in Contern last weekend, announcing his return in style!
