The F1rst Hero Bleeds Cool On Kickstarter Throughout July

Antony Kingdom James writes,

Everyone who has superpowers goes insane and becomes a threat to society.  Superpowers are outlawed and people with superpowers are hunted down by the government.  But when our hero, Jake Roth, manifests powers but does not lose his mind, he decides to risk his freedom and his life to fight the rising tide of psychotic villains pouring into Philadelphia.

That's my "elevator pitch" for THE F1RST HERO, my ongoing series from Action Lab Entertainment.  In our brand new story arc, entitled WEDNESDAY'S CHILD, Jake faces a new kind of threat: an 8-year old girl with the power to control minds.  But she is not acting alone.  The little girl is taking order from her bitter and greedy mother.  The unlikely criminal mastermind starts using her daughter's powers to force people into carrying out a shocking spree of larceny and revenge across the city.  Jake attempts to track down the duo, stop their assault on Philadelphia and, hopefully, rescue the young girl from her vicious, controlling mother.

Volume 3 takes some wicked and sinister turns.  It's filled with action and surprises and Jake fights his one-man war against the cops, the government's anti-superhuman military unit and against a plethora of less-than-sane powered-up baddies.  No one is safe in this story arc because, just as the old poem says, "WEDNESDAY'S CHILD is full of woe."

As I type this article, the Kickstarter campaign for this new volume has just started.  Back in September of 2013, as I was preparing a crowdfunding campaign to aid the publication of THE F1RST HERO Volume 1, Rich Johnston basically told me to sing for my supper if I wanted any coverage on Bleeding Cool.  "Write your own article, something personal, and I'll publish it", he said.  Crafty bugger.  Well, he's no less smart today than he was three years ago and here I am writing another article for Bleeding Cool.

THE F1RST HERO is my passion project.  It's a labour of love and as I told readers of this site three years ago, it's the dream of 12-year old me finally come true.  I'm proud of the stories I've been able to tell over the past couple of years and extremely proud of the artists I've been able to work with.  Italian newcomer Marco Renna follows in the footsteps of Phillip Sevy (now drawing TOMB RAIDER for Dark Horse) and Danny Zabbal (now working on his own creator-owned series, LIFE, DEATH AND SORCERY, for Chapter House) as series artist.  I'm looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for my Volume 3 partner, Marco Renna.  His art grows stronger with every page he draws and I don't think it will take long for even bigger opportunities to knock on his door.

And, of course, there's Fred Stresing, my loyal colourist and letterer.  Fred does such fantastic work, adapting to every artist I bring to the table and every story we tell.  I couldn't do it without him.

And so, new friends, I am here to invite you to check out our Kickstarter and, when you see something you like, make a pledge.  Whether you're just today learning about the series for the first time or you've been a loyal reader since Day One, our reward tiers have a little something for everyone.  Special editions, sketch covers, digital bundles, chances to appear as a minor character… We also have an option that will earn you all three volumes of the title in trade paperback format so newcomers can get the whole Jake Roth story in one fell swoop.

(Just send the campaign message after you make your pledge and mention Bleeding Cool to us!) ACTIONVERSE is the recently completed crossover mini-series that brought THE F1RST HERO together with MOLLY DANGER, STRAY, MIDNIGHT TIGER and FRACTURE to create a shared comic book universe for Action Lab.  This variant edition was drawn by artist TY TEMPLETON was printed in incredibly limited quantities, so jump on this offer while you can.
