From The Page To Bricks: Mouse Guard: Art Of Bricks HC Out Tomorrow

This is probably one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. Mouse Guard creator David Petersen has had people make lego-type art with his characters before, and he's done some himself. Now we get to see that process. This week brings the release of Mouse Guard: Art of Bricks HC. The book is being put out by Archaia, and Alice Finch is the one responsible for all of the hard work. The photos are taken by Alice and Seattle's ArchLUG.

Here's the description:

"ArchLUG member Alice Finch previously gained acclaim for her 400,000-piece construction of Hogwarts and the 200,000-brick construction of Middle-Earth's Rivendell with fellow ArchLUG member David Frank. Now, Alice and her team bring their imaginative construction skills to the world of David Petersen's Mouse Guard, re-imagining some of the series' most iconic moments and locations. This hardcover features hundreds of high-quality photos, chronicling the mind-boggling attention to detail paid to each individual construction, along with a breakdown of the process behind creating one of the dioramas. Includes a foreword by David Petersen."

While some may confuse this as an instruction manual, it's really an art book to marvel at. I flipped through the 248 page book and wished that I could be so talented to make some of these things myself. The actual mouse figures themselves are so adorable, I'd like to have some of those too. After a quick Google search, I realized that I can.

This is a cool release for David Petersen. So much so that he talked about it on his blog, and what the process was like for him when illustrating a "brick" form of his characters.

Here's a bit of what he said:

"I have written a foreword for the book. And to accompany it, I drew a pinup image of the Guardmice in Brick-form. Today's blogpost will go through the steps in creating that piece. I started by pulling down my LEGO model of the Matriarch chamber given to me at ECCC'15 by Alice Finch. I used the Mouse Guard mini-figs that Guy Himber at Crazy Bricks sent me to set a scene of familiar mice gathered around Gwendolyn."

All in all, I'm really excited about this and of course hope for a mass release of Mouse Guard brick sets one day. That way we can all have them. Be sure to grab your copy of Mouse Guard: Art of Bricks HC tomorrow.
