If Marvel Doesn't Want Him, Rodriguez Publishing Does…

4683494-1773198157-94652Rodriguez Publishing of New Jersey has registered a new trademark for "a series of short stories and comics". The name they want? "Mr. Fantastic"

As all comic fans know, Mister Fantastic is Reed Richards, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for The Fantastic Four.

But as a result of deteriorating relations between Marvel Comics and Fox – who hold the Fantastic Four license – Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter demanded Marvel cancel the Fantastic Four comic and all other licenses. And it was done.

Indeed, the Marvel Universe appears to believe that Mr Fantastic is dead, even as he lives out a role as God of the post-Secret Wars multiverse. And there are no comics currently being published featuring him.

But while the executives of Marvel may not care for Mr Fantastic right now, it is likely that their lawyers may be more concerned.
