Sometimes, it is worth recalling, with the current emphasis on diversity in comic books, that Todd MacFarlane has been publishing a comic book with a solo black lead for almost 25 years. It's just that Spawn is generally covered from head to toe. The character Al Simmons who has mostly filled that role also has a black wife, black daughter and a black best friend. And today published its 263rd issue.
