Are You Really Getting A $100 Value For Loot Crate DX?

If there's one thing I know a decent amount of information about, it's subscription boxes. I dove into the craze since Loot Crate hit the scene a few years ago, but my subscription didn't last long. I made the switch to Geek Fuel not long after, and found their box to be a better bang for my buck. Fast forward a year later, and I am subscribed to all of Funko's boxes as well. So, why not Loot Crate?

I don't have a personal vendetta against the company. In fact, I think they have created a wonderful legacy. Many of my friends subscribe to one of their boxes, and I often ask them how satisfied they are. Yesterday, in talking all things geek with a good friend of mine, he shared that he had signed up for Loot Crate DX. The next thing out of my mouth was, "was it worth it?"

For those of you who don't know, the regular Loot Crate costs $24.99, while Loot Crate DX costs $44.99, and the idea is you get a $100 value. The items are meant to be of higher collectible quality as well.

So, was my friend happy? He shrugged his shoulders, and appeared to be defeated. "Don't get me wrong," he said. "The items were cool, but the sweatshirt included bothered me."

Now it wasn't because of the design, because the Legend of Zelda Triforce on anything is wonderful, but the size. Most of us have a t-shirt size that is a bit more fitted, but when it comes to sweatshirts, I think we can all agree we go for the more comfy size. This could easily be remedied by Loot Crate simply adding a separate sweatshirt size option.

Moving on my friend expressed concern for the drinking related items in the box and the fact that there were only four items. Four items that didn't bring him much happiness for double the value of the normal Loot Crate. I'm curious if the company bit off more than they could chew with the variety of boxes now shipping, and perhaps it's just a rough first run. I'd be happy to hear other opinions on the matter.
