Scott Roush – Deal Or No Deal?

ComicCon Sunday 10-11-15 029Last week, Bleeding Cool ran a piece on comic con promoter Scott Roush, who seemed to be stating he represented large amounts of talent for such shows but, on examination, revealed he was known by a much smaller number.

Lots of folk, creators and show producers wanted to set the record straight from both sides. So, across Bleeding Cool comments, Twitter and Facebook, that's what they did. Here are a few…

Jamal Igle:

Okay, This is ridiculous that I have to do this but I have no idea who this person is. Scott Roush does not represent me in any way shape or form. If he approaches you saying it's on my behalf, it's a lie

Peter David:

I'm unsure why Rich didn't specify it was me, but I am the one who said flat out that Scott reps me. He has done so for about a year and gotten me some very good deals at various conventions. I would not hesitate to recommend his services.

Christopher Jones:

I am one of the creators listed, and no, I am not represented by this person.

Kevin Maguire:

I have no idea who he is.

Renee Witterstaetter:

No idea who he is. he did list someone I actually represent though. If you want to reach someone I represent: We are at: Eva Ink Artist Group, evaink@aol.com Geez

Marco J Alamo:

As I read this I crack up a little. I have known Scott for a couple of years now. I I have actually used him to book some guests for my con and he has delivered. This guy hustles, that much I can say. I don't know if it is exactly kosher what he is doing but he does hustle to make things happen. I have to agree with the statement about his e-mails, they are occasionally very difficult to decipher. I don't think he is a bad guy but I hope someone guides him to go about things the right way.

For the record, Scott booked Mark Texiera for me. I have seen him repping Sting in Houston and if I am not mistaken, I saw him repping Ric Flair at another convention.

Ramsey Ramirez:

Scott helped us book Rick Flair last year at South Texas Comic Con. He is a nice guy who never misrepresented himself. He told us that he can help us reach out to people and never said he represented anyone. We were happy with his services and he is a really nice guy and would use him again. Yes, his lists are long and disorganized but he has come through for us and works hard.

Fabian Nicieza:

I am not represented by Scott Roush! If I ever met him, I have no recollection.
I am now being represented for conventions by Spencer Beck of The Artist's Choice.

J David Spurlock:

OK, Scott called me. Though I had initially, forgotten his last name, I do know him — mostly in connection to our mutual associate Mark Texeira. Seems to me he is mostly about referrals… I gave him some suggestions re working on his PR and written presentations. Separately, I like posting photos so, here is a nice group shot at the Vanguard booth in New York from a few years back.

George Perez writes:

I just want to publicly state that Scott Roush has never been my representative and I negotiated a couple of convention appearances with him on the mistaken assumption that he was actually working for the conventions.

I have contacted the con organizers to assure them that I will still appear at their shows (since they were innocent of any wrongdoing) but any amount of money above my usual appearance fees is definitely not an authorized commission to Mr. Roush.

I have blocked Mr. Roush from my Facebook page. For the record, I usually negotiate my con appearances myself, When I don't have the time, the only person authorized to negotiate on my behalf is my longtime friend and art agent Spencer Beck of the Artists Choice (theartistschoice.com).

David Campiti:

As LUKE ROSS's actual agent for many years here at Glass House Graphics, after I saw his name on this list I consulted him about it. Luke replied: "Nope! I don't know him. I saw my name in the article, but I never got any contact for conventions from him.

DC Douglas:

Well I'm on the list. Might have spoken to him at a con? Don't remember. If he connects me to a con, that's cool. If he wants 10% then not as cool. That requires an agreement. I get all my bookings either directly through my website or through the two managers who book me most: Matt Dusing and Jeff Zannini.

Tony Bedard:

Scott booked me (and others) at RealmsCon in Corpus Christi where I had a great time. He struck me as a fine fellow. I don't think he's claiming to be peoples' exclusive agent — he just connects conventions with guests they might not otherwise book. My experience with him was just fine. I met him at a convention, gave him my contact info, and promptly forgot about it. Later, he contacted me with the convention opportunity, I agreed to do it, and it went fine. If you've met and forgot him in the rush of a convention day and then find he's out there looking for more opportunities for you, my advice is not to assume the worst. If you'd like him to stop trying to find you convention bookings, just ask him to stop. No biggie. But if he found me another con to do, I'd probably go for it

It was brought to my attention that a man named Scott Roush is claiming to rep me and many other comic artists for convention bookings. I've never met this man in my life and certainly don't use him for any business matters. I encourage any artist to check the link to see if he's claiming to rep you as well.

Frank Cho

HA! Hey Brandon, This scam artist, SCOTT ROUSH, claims that he represents you.
Man, just reading his master rep list, this guy is bonkers.

Brandon Christopher Peterson

I honestly don't know him, if we ever did talk I'm sure it was the situation others described. The one where he walks up to your table at a big con, says he has some conventions he reps and wants your contact info.

Alex Sanchez

Hello everyone, apparently there is a FAKE art rep passing himself off as my agent and many other creators in the comic book industry. This man SCOTT ROUSH is misrepresenting himself, please don't trust him, I have no idea who this person is.

J Greer:

Scott isn't a bad guy.. He is just a contact collector and a "connector guy" lol He does the work in finding contact info for folks that a lot of promoters are not willing to do themselves. While I understand that it seems shady to have people on a list that don't know him, he has nothing but intentions to make everyone money. I have booked through him before with success so he isn't out laying the shaft to people as far as I know. By the way – he is one of 100 "bookers" or "Fanagers" doing this these days. Every day a new one emails me. Some are professional looking, others are not. I think for the most part the booking industry has become that. Most comic creators desperately need guys like Scott, weather they know it or not.. But, that is a whole other discussion.
