The latest episode of Arrow called Unchained was an interesting one. It moved along a lot of plot threads, reinforced some of the ideas of the new season yet had a fun nod back to previous seasons. This is one of those episodes that showcases all the good things in the series.

1 – The episode starts with the team facing a robber who gives them a run for their money, and he should since they trained him. Roy Harper's return as a thief was an interesting way to show how much his character has progressed since the first time we met him stealing Thea Queen's purse. His return also helped contrast the changes in Oliver Queen. There were light moments between the two, joking about Oliver shooting him. And even moments when Oliver smiled at Roy with pride.

2 – With Thea they're doing something new with the Lazarus Pit, that if you ignore the blood lust then the pit un-saves you? This of course brings Malcolm Merlyn back and Oliver and him have a moment before Thea slips into a coma… but the important moment comes when the doctor tells Oliver that it doesn't look good for his sister. Could Thea be the one in the grave? It kind of makes more sense than Felicity if you take into account Barry Allen's reaction in the scene. Barry is late and offers his condolences… but he's not that upset. Barry would be upset if Felicity died, but he has only met Thea once.

3 – One of the places Roy has to rob for The Calculator is Palmer Tech. This puts him into a fight with Curtis Holt aka Mr. Terrific in the comics. Curtis almost holds his own against Roy… but Roy was holding back. But Curtis shows he's not afraid to fight and he tried using one of his T-Spheres as a weapon. Could we see him suit up before the end of the season?

4 – We got Roy and Malcolm back from season one… so it makes sense the bring Shadow back in the flashbacks to help Oliver through being tortured. Oliver having hallucinations of dead people is somewhat normal. But this time he ends up with the stone that Shadow gives him. Now that is a neat trick.

5 – Oh, and Nyssa is back. I could have done with more sword fighting between her and Katana, her important moment was at the end when she offers something to save Thea if Oliver kills Malcolm. Now I'm curious about two things here. How did Nyssa know that Thea was in need of the flower when she was held captive in Nanda Parbat? And second, how did she know about the flower but Malcolm didn't? The first can be explained by someone loyal in the League of Assassins got her the information. But Malcolm seems to be the type that would know everything about the Lazarus Pit.

6 – But of course, the big moment comes when Overwatch meets the Calculator… or in other words Felicity Smoak runs into Noah Kuttler and says "Daddy?" Does he know she was the one that stopped his plans or was he just there to see his daughter? This has been the rumored connection for a while now and where I think it's cool for the story that Pappa Smoak is a baddie, computer hacking skills aren't hereditary.

Overall this was a fun episode that moved a lot of things forward. And the moments above don't even talk about the Roy / Thea scenes or the fact there is someone else running for Mayor… and she's married to Damien Darhk.

We get more of The Calculator next week in an episode called Sins of the Father. A trailer for it is below along with a video inside last nights episode.
