Vive And Oculus Rift Expected To Sell 6.6 Million Units Combined This Year Says Report

We're just on the cusp of the VR horizon, with just a few months until these premium headsets are set to come out. There are a lot of big questions to still be answered though, such as price, practicality and the exact release dates.

Well, this new report from SuperData Research went deep into market to try and predict how well these headsets will do. It predicts all of VR will make around $5.1 billion in 2016. While the report expects smaller headsets like the Google Cardboard will be much more popular, it also guessed the sales of the premium headsets. It predicts that the Vive, Oculus Rift and other PC headsets will combine to make 6.6 Million in sales, where as the PlayStation's VR is expected to sell 1.9 million units.

This all sounds a little optimistic to me, especially as we don't have prices yet, but I do genuinely believe VR to be one of the next big 'things'. My guess is that PlayStation in particular need their product to sell quickly, more so than its competitors, so I'm sure Sony are hoping that demand is there like this report suggests. We will have to see.

Thanks IGN.
