It'll come as no surprise, but Fallout 4 was such a hugely anticipated game that it appears everyone purchased on day one. To that end, Bethesda has announced it's launched with around 12 million units to meet the demand, which represents sales in excess of $750 million.

Now, reading between the lines, that doesn't tell the whole story. What that means is that $750 million is the highest possible revenue return they could get if every one of those 12 million copies were sold, and it probably doesn't include digital sales anyway.

But honestly, we didn't need to be told that Fallout 4 was a smash hit – even though it's great, ok? Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks said:

We're extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game. Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world.

Todd Howard continued:

A huge thanks to our fans that've made this all possible. After four years of development, it's not complete until our fans get to play it and make it their own. We can't wait to hear about their adventures.
