Pop Cats: An Adorable Kickstarter

Estefania writes,

My husband is an illustrator who absolutely loves to go watch movies. After every movie we see, whether it's at the theater or at home, he gets inspired to draw something about it. When we went to see Mad Max: Fury Road in the theaters our adrenaline was running so high afterwards that neither of us could control our excitement. We spent the next 3+ hours after the movie just talking about how awesome it was. You could say were obsessing over it, and you would be right.

While I was cleaning up our office that same night, I realized my husband, Arnel, hadn't spoken much, if at all. We had music playing and he was hunched over his desk with his watercolor paints, which is normal, but the quiet part wasn't. I decided to leave him alone to do his thing, but as I walked out the office he calls me over and says "Hey, I think I'm done. Come see!". I go over assuming he had done a thumbnail of his version of the movie poster, or a detailed portrait of Immortan Joe, but instead he had this absolutely adorable, cute, little chubby cat, watercolor illustration dressed as Imperator Furiosa!

After that night, whenever he could, he drew the same chubby cat dressed as someone new. Ranging from comic characters, musicians, directors, movie characters and more! His cats were so popular on our Instagram that for San Diego Comic Con we had more commission requests than ever before! He wasn't even able to keep up with them that it took him two months after SDCC, to finish all of his commissions. That's when we decided that we needed to have a book of all new cats dressed as pop culture characters to offer people, called Pop Cats! Bad news though, we don't have the money to self fund a book printing. Good news, we could use Kickstarter to help us fund this!

Our newest Kickstarter book project called Pop Cats is just that, a book collecting these adorable cats dressed as fun characters, and not only can you pledge for prints from the book, and the limited book itself, but you can actually "adopt" the original cat illustrations that will be in the book in our Adopt-a-Pop Cat kit!

The Adopt-a-Pop Cat Kit is something that I came up with thanks to my husband's very personal attachment to his Pop Cat illustrations. The first time someone purchased a Pop Cat original illustration from us at a show, he was as happy as he was sad because he hadn't realized how truly connected he had become with these kitties, and he wasn't completely ready to let go. He named every cat he did, and he felt like he was Papa to them. I felt inspired by that feeling, and really wanted people to see, and feel that they were getting not only a drawing, but a piece of my husband's heart too. That's why I created the Adopt-a-Pop Cat kits because "adopting" the cat illustrations makes people feel like they are adopting a kitty, and taking them to a loving home.
