NYCC '15: Snikt 4 – The Annual Gay Geek Event

by Chuck Brouillette

Snikt 4!

That's the title of the 4th annual Gay Geek event held in Manhattan during NYCC and produced by AllGeekHQ and GeeksOut. This year's show was held at RockBar on Christopher Steet. A neat little place in a historical neighborhood that appears to present itself with a great deal more charm than I recall it displaying in recent years.

Well done. A packed house and a hell of a show.

Snikt picThere was a rather sharp looking black, WONDER GIRL, who blended the live-action Debra Winger version of the character in equal part with the original Nick Cardy comic version. She had great heart. Like the amenable AQUALAD who was also all smiles.

There was a talent show, a raffle and a cosplay contest with prizes too.

I saw a little-miss, girl Captain America crossed with (at least as far as saw it) more than a little Star Girl thrown in. She was right on point. And there was a HARLEY QUINN who
had a great Fanny Brice vibe and did a funny and fairly technically-fine bit of dubbing recorded uttered hysterics that proved just how crazy DC Comics top-selling female character truly is. Even Lypsinka herself would have marveled a bit at her work there.

And Little Miss Captain America/Star Girl did a multiple, hula-hoop spinning act with primary colored lights beaming through the hoops. And I swear at one point she had them spinning in such spectacular rhythm that I thought a Boom Tube was going to open up right there on stage. She was fantastic.

Things were a little disconcerting though, as I, like many others in the club were hauling around a NYCC swag-filled shoulder bag and couldn't help but being jostled to and fro constantly in that packed house. So maybe my equilibrium was off (or maybe it was The Boom Tube) but I'd swear at one point I saw Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, Tempest), Tim Seeley (Grayson) & Steve Orlando (Midnighter) all up on stage together. Snikt: DC Comics solidarity, indeed

Which got me thinking. How about allowing these DC Comics mavericks the opportunity to introduce the as yet, still unexplored, alternate DC Comics reality that would truly expand The Multiversity, Grant Morrison? And what number should we give it?

Just imagine.

I only managed the one pic, seen above. And it best capsulizes the occasion. A little fuzzy, like the night, but it captures the efficient and high-energy master of ceremonies along with his sweet, thin, almost Pan-like, (with a touch of 'Darren Stevens' tossed in) and perfectly blond AQUAMAN who was always there like a beacon in a lighthouse at Amnesty Bay.
