Cocaine Disco is an independent crime noir comic about an aging hitman and his boss's cokehead son on a 3-day odyssey through the criminal underworld of 1970s Las Vegas, and it's all inspired by grindhouse and exploitation cinema. It also happens to be created by Spencer Desmond and Simon Kercz.

Spencer Desmond writes,

Don't know what an exploitation film is?

Exploitation film is an informal label which may be applied to any film which is generally considered to be low budget, and therefore apparently attempting to gain financial success by "exploiting" a current trend, niche genre, or base desire for lurid subject matter, according to Wikipedia. But f*ck that guy, right?

But it's a comic right?

Yes, but it's so much more than that.

Not to say Cocaine Disco is a low budget book by any means, and we don't intend to exploit any trends, but the heart of the book is my love letter to all the shoestring cinema gold I grew up watching. This book is the result of my 5 year old self, sneaking into the living room of our 90s apartment to watch movies on a bootleg scrambler box. My little brain could barely process, or follow the loose plot lines and extremely adult themes, but there were fast cars, smoky shootouts, and some of the grittiest fistfights you'll find in a movie, oh and the occasional naked lady. Needless to say I was hooked, and 20 years later I'd still rather watch a movie made for 5 grand in the 70s over the next big blockbuster.

That's cool, but what is it about?

Without spoiling everything, the book takes place over the course of 3 days as David Cameron and Mitchell Goldstein wade deeper into the criminal underworld of 70s Las Vegas. An unlikely duo of soon to be retired enforcer (Cameron) and his employer's coke head son (Mitch), were only supposed to work one night together in sin city. Overseeing a sizable cocaine deal with a new Asian supplier. What was intended to be a simple deal quickly falls apart when a van full of masked men rolls on the deal. The assailants get away with everything, wounding Cameron, and killing quite a few of the Asian goons. The pair gets away somewhat safely only to find out they have 3 days to make things right with their new business partner, or they make their first payment in blood.
