Joe Jusko's Unused Art For TV Guide Magazine Cover

Before Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, iZombie, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Supergirl and all the other comic book shows filling up the television schedule, there was Smallville and a failed attempt at The Birds of Prey. But before the shot-lived series got cancelled, TV Guide hired legendary artist Joe Jusko to paint a cover for the magazine featuring the TV version of Huntress played by Ashley Scott. Joe posted the image along with an explanation to his Facebook page. He also put up one of the other layouts he considered doing.

Unpublished Birds of Prey TV Guide cover and the unused first idea. I thought a classic Amsel portrait style cover would be cool but a more comic booky approach was requested. I was really excited about the assignment but unfortunately the show was cancelled as I was working on the cover (!) and the final painting was never used. Bummer, as I really like the finished piece.

Instead of telling me to stop where I was and paying me a kill fee, the AD told me to finish it and voucher the full amount. Classy move. wink emoticon
