SDCC '15: Hasbro Shows Marvel Is Where Their Head Is At

by Jeremy Konrad

Saturday Hasbro held its annual SDCC Marvel panel and while they didn't reveal too many new figures, they always use this panel as an opportunity to interact with their fans and make sure they are getting exactly what they want from them. Which is in stark contrast to their Star Wars brand right now. With the movies firing on all cylinders, the comics relaunching with All-New AllDifferent Marvel, and the success of their primetime and Netflix shows, they have a unique opportunity to give us action figure collectors figures we never dreamed of getting.

They started off the panel by showing the first build a figure for 2016: Red Skull Onslaught from AXIS last year followed by a Nuke figure, both in Legends 6 inch scale. Next was the next wave of Spider-Man legends including a new Venom with 2 heads, Jack O Lantern, Morbius, a Cosmic Spidey,Carnage mash-up, and maybe the highlight of the panel and their booth display: SpiderGwen. They beamed with pride talking about this one, including the fact that it comes with swappable heads so she can just be Gwen Stacy.

Up next was 3 3/4 inch figures, and quite a few were shown, which really surprised me as they have let that line fall a little down the priority list for Star Wars. Figures shown included Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, a classic Yondu, a Spidey Noir, a modern Gamora, a cosmic suit Spidey, and a yellow Daredevil. They also announced the comic 2-packs are coming back, this first wave consisting of Superior Iron Man, Falcon Cap with Vance Astro, and Lady Thor with Unworthy Thor. The last two teases of the panel were a new 6 inch Abomination and a tease for a modern version of Namor.

On to the Q&A!

Is Kamala Kahn coming anytime soon? ( I asked this): with Inhumans and her specifically a character focus for Marvel, it is for them too.

Cosmic Spidey in both scales? Sure thing kid.

Will you guys please do a Luke Cage of any kind? Really good possibility when the TV show comes around.

Any chance for a Son of Satan figure? No way in the main retail line but maybe as an exclusive.

Any chances for some dioramas? Not by us, check out some work by the other companies, they do great work.

Plain suit Tony Stark? We should do him and a Matt Murdock! Would probably work better as an exclusive or part of a pack.

LOTS of Spideys are coming thanks to Spider-Verse.

Movie versions of Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, or Vision? As soon as we can slot them in.

They want to do a Peter Porker.

They get about 3-6 months advance notice from Marvel about storylines so that they can plan accordingly, a great example is the Spider-Gwen figure.

LOTS of pictures below.
