Report: Nintendo NX To Release July 2016 With Production Starting This Year

The Nintendo NX is still shrouded in mystery and, at least to me, feels very far off. We haven't even begun to hear that many rumours as to what it is, so my predictions were that we'd see it in 2017 sometime.

Not so, according to Taiwan based site Digitimes. They claim that pilot production for the console,which is being handled by Foxconn, will begin in October, and that mass production will ramp up in May and June 2016 for a 2016 release.

They also added that Nintendo aim to sell 20 million consoles in the first 12 months. For reference, the PlayStation 4, which has sold incredibly well, has sold 22.5 million units and that is after two and a half years of being on the market.

I believe there is something to this, but that release date seems very, very early. Unless there is a reveal and then a release very soon after, I don't see how this is possible. Also, that 20 million unit shipped projection seems outrageous. Unless this is very cheap and is a must have to casual and hardcore gamers, there is now way this gets close.
