Sony And Paramount To Skip SDCC This Year

SONY_logo_newYou can add Sony and Paramount to Marvel's name as major studios sitting out this years Comic-Con International. It looks like it is simply a matter of the movie cycles not lining up and the studios not having appropriate material to justify taking over Hall H. The cost of doing a presentation can be a few hundred thousand dollars… so it makes sense to skip the show if you don't have the right movie to promote.

Though doesn't it seem weird that none of these three have anything to promote that would fit the SDCC audience? Marvel for example could promote Ant-Man, which opens a week after the show. They could also start building the hype for Captain America: Civil War… and wouldn't it be a good place for Marvel and Sony to unveil their new shared Spider-Man? Paramount could promote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and Stephen Amell will already be there. And Sony has an upcoming James Bond movie… so it seems like they could promote something.

Hall H won't be empty though as there are planned panels for Star Wars, Hunger Games and Warner Bros upcoming DC Entertainment movies. Fox may also have Fantastic Four and X-Men panels.
