The Consumer Oculus Rift Is Expected In Early 2016

OculusSide

The Oculus Rift has been in development for a hell of a long time. It seems that we have been talking about the headset hypothetically for several years at this point. However, it's clear the time of consumer VR is not too far away.

Oculus announced today that the consumer unit of their device will launch in Q1 of 2016. There are many details absent such as the expected price, but it was revealed:

The Oculus Rift builds on the presence, immersion, and comfort of the Crescent Bay prototype with an improved tracking system that supports both seated and standing experiences, as well as updated ergonomics for a more natural fit, and a highly refined industrial design.

If the Vive doesn't delay, that will launch this Christmas. The market is going to be a pretty interesting battleground come early 2016. And I'll be here covering it all. Keep tuned.
