The Six Important Moments From Gotham – Under The Knife

*** This article contains spoilers from the most recent episode of Gotham ***

With the most recent episode of Gotham, the majority of storylines took major moves forward and one didn't. Its another week of first kills for a Batman villain and Jim Gordon admits his feelings… its like a very special episode of Gotham. Here are the six important moments.

1) We start with the fall out from the murder of Reggie Payne. Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle get away before the police arrive. Its obvious that the killing disturbs Bruce more than Selina. The two decide to continue working together to get information on the man who hired Reggie, Sid Bunderslaw. Bruce takes Selina with him to the Wayne Foundation charity dinner where she steals and makes a duplicate of Bunderslaw's safe key. Selina also sees Barbara Keen at the event with Jason Lennon.

2) Jim Gordon has chosen to take on the Ogre knowing that it will put the ones he loves in danger. When Jim can't find Leslie Thompkins right away, he races to her home where she hits him thinking he's an intruder. Once Jim has the chance to explain the situation, he tells Lee he wants her out of town but she refuses. She is staying put and counting on Jim to protect her. She likes the idea of her being a loved one to which Jim tells her that he does love her. It's an oddly romantic moment in the middle of a rather serious episode.

3) Oswald Cobblepot is ready to make his move on Sal Maroni. He has the killing box and he gets Carmine Falcone's second best gun crew to agree to do the shooting. But Maroni is making some kind of move as well. He visit's the club and spends time with Gertrude Kapleput and in front of Oswald, tells her just what her son has been up to. Cobblepot is furious and though he takes the time to try and calm down his mother, when Maroni sends her flowers, Oswald takes another step towards being The Penguin and kills the delivery man.

4) And I mentioned first kills earlier. Seems Kristen Kringle's new boyfriend, officer Tom Dougherty isn't very nice. When Edward Nygma sees bruises on Kringle, he gets involved. He first tries to warn Dougherty off and the confronts him in front of the girl's house. When Dougherty tries beating Nygma for interfering, the forensic expert stabs the cop… repeatedly. And we see a certain level of insanity appear… the first true glimpse of The Riddler.

5) And then we have Barbara Keen being stalked by Jason Lennon / The Ogre until the two are alone in her apartment. Lennon asks her about her boyfriend which she tells him she doesn't have one and is offended that he thought she was the type that would cheat. Lennon had originally gone to kill her to make an example for Gordon… but Keen talks herself out of just being murdered as a message and into becoming his next possible victim. He later tracks her down at the charity ball and gets her to go home with him which leads to a scene that looked more like 50 Shades Of Gray.

6) We also learn the background of The Ogre. He was born with a deformed face that his mother couldn't stand and left. His father raised him while working as a butler for the Van Groot's. When Mrs. Van Groot spent so much time with Jason he began to believe he was her son and when the turned out to be false, he killer her. His father continued to maintain the house as her corpse laid upstairs in bed. Jason then took on the guise of Van Groot's son. The Ogre is not your typical serial killer. He has the serial killer thing going with the kidnapping, keeping until they mess up and then killing them thing. But to throw in an initial murder and then subsequent murders to keep the cops away… he strays far from his pathology.

BONUS) This isn't so much of an important moment but rather a moment that didn't happen. Where is Fish Mooney? She had just been shot and was flying away from the Dollmaker's island last week. You'd think we'd see something… a crashed helicopter… an emergency landing… something. But nope, maybe next week.

With that there are only two episodes left in the season. Next week we get The Anvil Or The Hammer and then it wraps up with All Happy Families Are Alike. And we may get a glimpse of the future Batcave soon.
