PSA: WoW Tokens Will Be Available Tomorrow, Making World Of Warcraft 'Free' For Some

Remember a little while ago, I talked about a way that World of Warcraft could be 'free' to those who were farming enough gold to buy subscription time on the in-game auction house? Well, that is going to be implemented tomorrow.

This system will allow the most hardcore players play the game for 'free', while also giving players with surplus real world cash a gold injection in the game. In a post on Battle.net, Blizzard explain:

The WoW Token will be available for $20 USD/$25 AUD from the in-game Shop, and will be set at a starting price of 30,000 gold in the Auction House across the Americas region. From that point forward, the gold price will automatically fluctuate based on player supply and demand. To start we'll be limiting the number of Token purchases to 10 within a 30-day period, but this limit may be adjusted over time.

I'm very curious to see how this goes over. This is a very experimental idea that could mess with WoW's economy in various ways if it proves to be popular. While it would be dangerous for me to get back into the game, I am going to keep a close eye on the situation.
