FOOL: Forever Con To Launch In Exactly 1 Year. Then Never Stop.

foreverIt seems like comic book convention season starts earlier and earlier each year. And gets fuller and fuller. It seems like it will never end.

Well, that's the aim of Forever Con, a new comic book convention that is planning to open its doors in Las Vegas… and never close.

It is a dream for some, who get to the end of a Sunday and the tannoy kicks everyone out. You want the show to never end. Well, now it never has to.

The ideas is that, rather than comic book creators, publishers, promoters, fans, chase comic book conventions across the country, from state to state to state, they'll set up in one show and just never leave. Or at least stay as long as they want.

Vendors can choose to use heavily discounted hotel rooms or rent extended leases on apartments nearby. Some publishers might choose to set up for odd weekends, some might benefit from having a crew permanently on site. They will also make allowances for some creators or publishers to use their booth as office space, to work out of the show, but make themselves available to the public.

Equally, this will give some fans the opportunity to stay in close proximity to creators or publishes for far longer. Professional cosplayers will be able to live and work onsite, with a special Cosplay complex. Just as there will be permanent creators at the shows, so there may be permanent fans.

But for most it will be a temporary thing. Publishers, creators will be able to set up shop for days or weeks before moving on. But some, who seem to be at every show, may find it easier to do so in one location. J Scott Campbell, Gary Erskine, Rags Morales and Katie Cook, are amongst those considering permanent tables at Forever Con. And for DC Comics, currently moving from the East Coast to the West Coast might find the Forever Con a welcome break for many from the new "friendly" office atmosphere. And a handy place to recruit new talent from other publishers.

Since Forever Con will be open every day, including holidays, every other show will be in conflict when it comes to dates. As a result letters will be sent asking if the other shows will move their spot so that it doesn't conflict with Forever Con. It's not clear if San Diego Comic Con will be able to relocate to the 32nd June, but that may be their only option.

The doors open in exactly one year to the day (check your calendar) for the only preview night the show will ever hold. And Bleeding Cool has been invited to run one of the permanent pitches at the event, giving people the chance to feed us gossip on a one-to-one basis every day of the year!

Forever Con – are you in?
