John Cassaday Shows The Anatomy Of A Cover With The Complete Dracula

Artist John Cassaday did a series of covers for Dynamite's The Complete Dracula series back in 2009. He took to Facebook yesterday and shared his original concept sketches for each cover in the series of five.

Anatomy of a cover(s): THE COMPLETE DRACULA #1 (Dynamite, 2009)

For this five issue mini series, I wanted to implement a simplistic yet bold color scheme, playing on the B&W filmic quality I've always equated to the character (whether it's Nosferatu or the tried and true portrayal by Bela Lugosi) and toss in the vibrant blood-red for a pointed visual cue. I also chose to set it apart from most covers on the stands by placing the logo in the middle, using it as a divider between the two images- the master shot and the cut to/close-up. I had a bloody good time putting these together…

BOO!!

The Complete Dracula written by Leah Moore and John Reppion, interior art by Colton Worley and covers by Cassaday is available in trade or digitally. For more information, click here.
