A Ton Of YouTubers Are Signing Up To Nintendo's Partner System Despite Complaints

Super Mario

Last week I ran a story about how PewDiePie and many other Let's Players were up in arms about Nintendo's new partnership proposal. The proposal would see a crack down on Nintendo content being uploaded to the video site unless creators agreed to share part of their profits with the corporations.

Well, despite huge voices in the community weighing in on the subject, it seems the service is doing just fine. Nintendo have extended their 72 hours approval bracket because they've been inundated with requests to partner up.

The company released a statement saying:

Due to your enthusiasm for the program, we're receiving a higher volume
of applications to register channels & videos than expected.
It is taking longer than we anticipated to confirm the applications.
We appreciate your patience as we work through them as quickly as possible.

I do still think this is setting a dangerous precedent for the Let's Play community. If one corporation get away with it, I wouldn't be surprised to see more follow. You start taking away big chunks of revenue from streamers and players, and the floor of industry could begin to fall though.

I certainly hope not. That community is bright and exciting for the industry. I'd hate to see it strangled in it's infancy by corporations.
