The Winner Of The Red Sonja Cover Contest

The winner of Dynamite's Red Sonja Cover Contest has been selected… and the winner is:

Matt "Happy" Brooks

We are very excited to announce the winner of the @RedSonjaOfficial and @ArtofDrawingg Cover Art Contest is 32-year-old Matt Brooks (@happybrooks) from Charleston South Carolina.

For his stunning piece he used a combination of ink and watercolor. He thought it would be a great way to tell Red Sonja's rich history visually by executing the hair collage. Matt was inspired by movie posters for the Dark Knight Rises and Star Trek: Into Darkness films.

Matt grew up drawing comics as a child and is a huge fan of Stan Lee.  Matt served in the Army for four years and was deployed to Iraq twice where poundcakes full of Jamison from his loving wife kept him going.  He came home from the Army and studied graphic design and Internet programming while his dream of being a comic book artist fell to the wayside.  Matt heard about the contest through his good friend and comic book fan Jason who had read the original bleeding cool article!  He was immediately jumped on board and started his work!

A fan favorite from the moment his picture was posted, the team at Dynamite Publishing and Red Sonja LLC are overjoyed with the results.  Both Dynamite and Red Sonja would like to thank all the participants, finalists and amazing runners-up for making this contest something special.  Matt stated that he would have been just as happy losing to any of the runner ups, as their works were equally incredible.  Matt is already excited about his next project which will be a depiction of his hero Stan Lee, who coincidentally was the business partner of the late Arthur Lieberman, former President of Red Sonja LLC.  We can't wait to present Stan with that picture and are eager to see Matt's next piece of work.  Matt also hopes he can continue his newfound comic book art career.
Congratulations Matt!!
