Your Destiny Character Will Carry Over In Sequels

Destiny_GuardiansWhen Bungie said they had a '10 year plan' for Destiny, some people thought that meant that the developer would just build on the initial release for a decade. It is not hard to see how people arrived at that conclusion, but I always found it highly unlikely. Activision is a company that loves sequels and while a strong base, in 10 years time Destiny is going to be incredibly archaic. Just to eliminate any doubt, in November Activision said that a sequel was being worked on.

That doesn't mean the developer is abandoning that 10 year plan though. The idea is that you'll be taking your Guardian with you in subsequent sequels over the next decade. Speaking with IGN, Bungie's community manager, David Degue, said:

The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they've had a relationship with the same character for a very long time.

While this might end up rubbing people the wrong way, I dig this approach. I still think Destiny is a wonderful experiment and I very much enjoyed my time with it. Bungie will be fully aware of the difference between what fan's wanted and what the game is. They will iron out that divide, and Destiny 2 could well be something very special.

The fact that my Guardian will be along for the ride is a great added bonus too.
