Larry Hama Is… The Voice Of Rai

Valiant's latest QR Voice Variant – their series of "talking" covers that debuted with X-O Manowar #1 back in 2012 – hit shelves last week with the release of Rai #5 by Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain.

Rai's series takes place in 41st century Japan and, as such, a talking rendition of Valiant's most famous Japanese hero required a Japanese American voice actor. That's where famed writer/editor/GI Joe creator Larry Hama came in. Hama took over voice duties for the cover during a recording session at Neal Adams' Continuity Studios in New York City, who also handled animation for the project.

Here is the result:

He redefined the silent issue with GI Joe #21…and now he is the voice of a talking cover. Did Larry Hama just go full circle?

Rai #5 is on sale now.
