Lego Batman 3 And Marvel Unlimited Plus Lure Fans With Toy Giveaways

By Brian Goldberg

November 11, 2014 marked the release date of the Lego Batman 3 video game.  I'm more of a toy collector than a gamer, so I was actually more excited by the pre order incentives that came with claiming a copy of the next chapter in the Lego DC saga.  There were six incentives split between a variety of retailers.  The mix included a Batgirl minifigure keychain from Amazon, a digital comic from Best Buy, a Plastic Man minifigure from Gamestop, a Batwing mini kit from Target,  a Joker minifigure keychain from Toys "R" US, and a tumbler mini kit from Walmart.

My choice was easy.  I went straight for the proper polybag Plastic Man as many of my fellow toy collectors would.  I was delighted.  I haven't been able to attend SDCC, so my access to some of the more unusual character mini figures aren't available to me on the primary market.  This Plastic Man was a small taste of the potential of the variety of figures that could be produced if there was the appropriate demand.

I looked at the Plastic Man and knew right away we had something in common.  We both had smiles on our faces.

When it was announced in August that Marvel Plus Unlimited would be offering an exclusive Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon and two exclusive comics in addition to the regular membership incentives, I knew I could not hesitate when it came time to renew my membership.  When I first found out this white repaint of the crimson accented 2013 Build-A-Figure was coming out, I wasn't as blown away as I would be if it was a new character.

When the figure came and I was done ripping apart the package, I was actually pleasantly surprised.  In addition to the ivory gloves and matching trim, the paint job on Rocket's face is an improvement from its earlier incarnation.  The new Marvel Plus version has metallic eyes and a shinier mug.  The comics are a great bonus too!  Rocket Raccoon #1 has a fun cover by Sara Pichelli and #2 has an exclusive cover by Skottie Young.  My suggestion to the folks behind the digital magic would be to package the comics a little better prior to shipping: package preparation should have the Near Mint collector in mind.  My copies came with spine ticks that would bring in a grade about 8.5-9.0.

My only real problem? How do I add in another Rocket with my Cosmic Marvel figure collection?  Decisions, decisions.
