Conor Boyle writes,

Ever wanted to stick two fingers up at the establishment? Us too. Cross is 64 pages of comic satire, brought to you by some of the finest established and emerging writers and artists in the UK today.

Dave and Boris by Alwyn Talbot

Ours is a country where the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer all went to schools which charge more per year than the average household earns.

Where nurses stage protests about cuts to NHS budgets while bankers wave £10 notes at them through their office windows, laughing.

Where the five richest families are worth more than the poorest 12 million peopleHeader by Soffe

Cross is a collection of short comic stories from some of the UK's finest creators. A shot across the bows of the establishment. A call to people across the land to think about who governs us and the decisions they make on our behalf. And a rallying call to get out the vote.

Cross is being published by Disconnected Press, stalwarts of the indie scene, and it's their most ambitious book to date.

"We have more creators, more stories, more brilliant artwork in this book than ever before," says Disconnected Press co-founder Conor Boyle. "That's why we're on Kickstarter – to help offset some of the production costs by giving people the opportunity to pre-order the book.

Goodbye Rik

The Kickstarter campaign for Cross runs until 8 November. Bleeding Cool readers who pledge support will be sent a free copy of Disconnected Press' stand-out hit comic Sentient Zombie Space Pigs, which was described by John Freeman of Down The Tubes as "hilarious dark humour horror… one of the best-realized black and white indie titles I have read in a while". Simply back Cross on Kickstarter, tweet @DisconnectedPrs to say that you've backed us and we'll include a copy of Sentient Zombie Space Pigs in with your reward.

There was a timely interview with Rory Bremner recently, talking about the death of satire. He said:

"We should rediscover our tradition of satire. Of speaking truth unto power. Or, at least, blowing raspberries unto it. It's a question of political will.

"Can we do it in time for the next election? Yes, we can."

That's what Disconnected Press are trying to create with Cross.

64 pages of satire, born from a group of people who wish Spitting Image was still around.

64 pages, poking a stick at the elite and the establishment.

64 pages, we hope, of speaking truth unto power, no matter where that power is held.
