Comedy Central's Broad City At New York Comic Con

The Broad City panel was a popular one with every seat taken and many standing. A highlight reel of the first season aired followed by the Missy Elliot song 'Work It'. This song coaxed creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer out to the floor, dancing all the way. Once the ladies regained their breath, they introduced Nicole Drespel as moderator. Abbi and Ilana seemed truly humbled to see such a turn out for their show which began as a web series for the two to work on their craft.

Nicole began by asking the ladies their dream guest star, dead or alive to which Ilana answered Lucille Ball and Abbi replied Richard Jenkins. This was followed up by the canned question about how similar they are to their characters. Ilana responded with a similar canned answer which drew laughs but they eventually explained its a heightened version of themselves in their early 20's. Abbi and Ilana talked about the transition between the web and TV show (there's a lot more production time for TV) and explained how they like to surround themselves with both old friends and new collaborators. They admitted there are bits of improv peppered throughout the show, but never anything to interrupt the narrative. The final question prompted the stars to name their favorite joke from season 1. For Abbi, it was the cumulative of the "gross f***" list and for Ilana, it's when Abbi physically carried her.

We then transitioned to a live commentary of the episode "Fattest Asses" which was much like a typical DVD track. They shared personal anecdotes from the filming and named off the extras whom almost all had some background in comedy or improv. Next up was a clip from the new season where the ladies browse through a Bed Bath and Beyond type of store. Ilana quickly discovers Abbi is in this store way too much as she greets every employee she sees with an increasingly elaborate hand shake.

The panel wrapped with a short Q+A where nothing major was revealed. The ladies thanked the audience profusely and took a few photos on stage while the audience was treated to a free t-shirt and sticker. You can catch up on the first season on the Conedy Central app and check out the new season in January 2015.
