NYCC – Adult Swim Edition: Mike Tyson Mysteries

Matt Lambros writes for Bleeding Cool:

The "Mike Tyson's Mysteries" panel opened with a clip show from the first season. The show stars Tyson as a cartoon super sleuth, Jim Rash as the ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry, Norm MacDonald as a pigeon, and Rachel Ramras as Tyson's adopted Korean daughter Yung Hee. The group attempts (and often fails) to solve mysteries.

mlambrosTyson-1The panel was moderated by Larry Wilmore (soon to be of the "Minority Report" on Comedy Central.) The panelists were Hugh Davidson, one of the shows producers, Mike Tyson, and Rachel Ramras, the voice of Yung Hee. After introducing the panelists, Wilmore asked how the show came about. Davidson and Tyson went back and forth a few times, each giving the other credit for the idea of the show. Davidson claims that Tyson came to them wanting to do a cartoon. Tyson said that isn't true, and that Davidson showed up at his house asking him to be in it. He jokingly claimed that he'd never heard of Adult Swim, and thought it was an exotic lake that rich white people bathed in to become young again (like in the film "Cocoon").

After agreeing to do it and watching a rough cut of the show, Tyson became more passionate about the project and requested to re-record all his dialogue to match his new-found enthusiasm for the show. During the first season Tyson and co. will try to help someone find their dream house, search for the Chupacabra, help Cormac McCarthy finish a novel, and figure out why Tyson's character became an astronaut serial killer.

mlambrosTyson-2The panel then opened to audience questions. Ramras was asked what her character brings to the show, and she answered that Yung Hee is the voice of reason of the group. Tyson said what he enjoys most about the show is that he doesn't have to take himself seriously, and can just let go. When asked if there were any plans for Tyson to write an episode, he said maybe, as long as someone wrote down what he dictated.

There will not be any references to "Mike Tyson's Punch Out" in the show. However, they are considering making "Mike Tyson's Punch Out 2."

"Mike Tyson's Mysteries" premieres on Monday, October 27, 2014 on Adult Swim. The first season will run for 10 episodes.
