Adult Swim Presents Triumph The Insult Dog And Jack McBrayer

Amanda Gurall writes for Bleeding Cool:

triumph_insult_comic_dog-geeksandcleatsAdult Swim had a great panel in the main stage which started off with a strange and dusty wizard cosplayer holding a dragon puppet wearing plaid boxer shorts around its' neck.  The wizard was halfway through his introduction for Triumph the Insult Dog when I realized we were watching the legendary Blackwolf The Dragonmaster, the filet of fish eating wizard we saw in the 2007 Conan segment that sent Triumph to interview the crowd at the premiere of Attack Of the Clones.

He then Introduced 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer along with the moderator political talk show host Alan Colmes and finally Triumph, aka Robert Smigel.  Triumph wasted no time getting down to insults and the entire room was hysterical. He asked Colmes if he felt comfortable doing the panel since at Fox News he was used to "being the straight man to a corporate puppet" And comparing him to a lizard in a terrarium.  Triumph got a few insults in to McBrayer as well before showing the clip of their work together visiting The Wiener Circle for Conan in 2012, the sketch that inspired their new show, The Jack and Triumph show (Working Title).

The show is the only sitcom to be taped live in NYC since The Cosby Show and is half scripted half dog on the street style we love from Smigel. Jack plays Jack Malickey who starred with Triumph in a Lassie type show as a child but offscreen Triumph led Jack astray a la Todd Bridges and Gary Coleman from Different Strokes.  Jack got back on the straight and narrow but Triumph finds him again, becomes his roommate and drags him back to debauchery.  The shows feature guest stars as varied as Leonard Maltin and N'Sync's Joey Fatone playing poker in the first episode.

What we saw was hillarious and raunchy at the same time as it was witty and smart. Smigel and  McBrayer were both really quick and funny and it looks like the new show is something to check out. It starts January 29th on Adult Swim.
