"It's Been A Lot Of Ponies" – Interview With Agnes Garbowska

Derek Trum is attending the New York Comic Con and got a chance to talk with My Little Pony cover artist Agnes Garbowska.

20141010_120932_resizedDerek: The last year or it seems like you have been doing a lot of My Little Pony covers.

Agnes: It's been a lot of ponies. Ponies have taken over my life. I love it though, it's great to be on such a happy property right now.

Have you started to see a reaction from the Brony community?

Oh yea, Bronies are awesome! People always ask me about Bronies and I always tell them how amazing they are. They are so passionate about the fan base and the characters from the series.

20141010_120817_resizedAlong with comic book conventions we are now starting to see the beginnings on My Little Pony conventions. Have you attended any of Brony Cons yet?

I have not done any Brony Cons yet. I'm one of the newer artist to the My Little Pony scene. I started on issue 6. Primarily I'm still only doing comic cons because I'm still known for my earlier work like the Spider-Ham work I did for Marvel. I do hope to attend a Brony Con in the future.

Lately Marvel and DC have been doing themes with their variant covers. One month it's all Deadpool photo bombs or Lego figure covers. When will we get an entire month of Agnes Garbowska covers?

Whenever they ask me to.  They know I want to.  I think it would be totally cool. They would be the cutest covers ever. I hope I get that chance in the future. We just have to keep telling Marvel and DC to hire me.

20141010_120828_resizedWith your style has there ever been a character that just didn't translate well to a cute version?

Not yet. Everyone is always surprised when I tell them I draw a cute Venom. I can turn any character into a cute version of the self. So far I haven't been stumped. It's usually the stranger characters that come out the cutest. The more simple characters can be tough because I always want to do something to make them cuter. But strange ones are easy. I do a really cute Spawn.

We don't see enough cute Spawns.

We all need a cute Spawn in our lives.

20141010_120921_resizedDo you have any upcoming creator owned projects?

Nothing coming up. My Web comics are still online at my website. You can check them out in the Mymisiu Gazette. There you can read, "Waking Up Abbey", "Imagination Station" and "You, Me, and Zombie"  Those are also available in book form on Amazon. For the time being Ponies will be taking up most of my time.
