Cover Process – Marc Laming On Flash Gordon #5

The latest issue of Flash Gordon has a very cool looking cover by artist Marc Laming and we have both the black & white inked version, colored version and then the finished colored cover including logos, etc. The colors were done by Elmer Santos. I'm curious how Laming did the stars here… in the past I've seen inkers black in an area and then use white paint with a toothbrush to splatter on stars… not sure what he's done here for the stars or for the astral areas… but it's a nice piece and the colorist pulled it together well.

Also, something of note here… you'll notice the yellow / gold bar across the top of the cover. This will be a line wide addition so readers will know that the issue is either the first of a new series or first of a new story arc.
