Game Of Thrones Beats Out Doctor Who For Hugo Award

hugo_smTonight the Hugo Awards were handed out and there were a few headline making moments. Games of Thrones episode The Rains of Castamere beat out Doctor Who anniversary episode The Day Of The Doctor as well as Orphan Black's Variation Under Domestication, Adventures In Space And Time and The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. This was in the category of Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

The Hugo Awards are given for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy. They were first awarded in 1953, and have been awarded every year since 1955. The awards are run by and voted on by fans.

BEST NOVELLA – "Equoid" by Charles Stross

BEST NOVELETTE – "The Lady Astronaut of Mars" by Mary Robinette Kowal

BEST RELATED WORK – "We Have Always Fought: Challenging the Women, Cattle and Slaves Narrative" by Kameron Hurley

BEST GRAPHIC STORY – "Time" by Randall Munroe

BEST DRAMATIC PRESENTATION, LONG FORM – Gravity written by Alfonso Cuarón & Jonás Cuarón, directed by Alfonso Cuarón

BEST DRAMATIC PRESENTATION, SHORT FORM – Game of Thrones "The Rains of Castamere" written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, directed by David Nutter

BEST PROFESSIONAL ARTIST – Julie Dillon

 

JOHN W. CAMPBELL AWARD FOR BEST NEW WRITER – Sofia Samatar
