The Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 10th August, 2014 – Superior Beats Rocket

Superior_Spider-Man_32_Cover-850x560This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the Wednesday Warriors, those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

The beginning of the Spider-Verse event from Marvel Comics, with the return of Doc Ock to Spidey's melon heart, saw Superior Spider-Man pip the traditional Batman Eternal weekly title to the top spot, even at $4.99. Rocket Raccoon slipped down the chart with its second issue. But it remains the only anthropomorphic title in the charts, however. Here's how the week looked.

  1. Superior Spider-Man #32
  2. Batman Eternal #18
  3. Detective Comics #34
  4. Rocket Raccoon #2
  5. Original Sin #5.3
  6. New Avengers #22
  7. New 52: Futures End #14
  8. Action Comics #34
  9. Original Sin #3.4
  10. Green Lantern #34

Thanks to the following retailers:

And this is what they had to say,

Well I guess you can't keep a good bad guy down, since Superior Spider-Man #32 was the clear winner this week. However Batman Eternal was close on its heel. The bulk of the books that sold in the mid range were independent books like The Woods.

I am sure that all stores are going to say that they sold a ton of Guardians of the Galaxy back-issues this last week. Well count me in as well since Guardians and especially Legendary Star Lord #1 sold like hotcakes. Flash is also picking up and will probably start to outsell other back-issue titles in the next 30 days.

Awesome week in new comics. Fans were crazy for the return of Superior Spider-Man and it sold great. Rocket Raccoon did some crazy sales coming off of this weekends Guardians of the Galaxy movie. That was also the talk of the shop this week. Non-stop love for the Guardians movie. The final issue of Kick Ass 3 sold awesome too despite the high price tag and was one of the most talked about books of the week.

Lots of people in search of Guardians merch of any kind. Anything with Rocket Raccoon or Groot on it sells hand over fist.

Marvel takes the top four positions–and two of those four are GotG spinoff books! New 52: Futures End pulled ahead of Batman: Eternal in the weekly DC competition, primarily due to customer attrition on the Batman book. ("I like Batman, but this doesn't seem to be going anywhere," one customer said. "I have to make myself read it," another explained, "so I finally asked myself why I keep buying it.") Superior Spider-Man's position on the charts bodes well for "Edge of Spider-Verse."

Seeing more interest in DC Silver, Bronze, and post-Crisis era comics from collectors who diverted the money they were spending on New 52 into buying DCs they really enjoy instead. New 52 is turning off readers pretty steadily, but they still love the core characters.

Action Comics 34 and the annual blew out of here Wednesday. The selfie variant cover was also sold out. Somehow Action Comics sold more and faster than the previous issue. The return of Superior Spider-Man even at $4.99 is a hit. Batman Eternal is still number one. Solid week for sales.

Back issues of both the original Marvel and Dark Horse issues of Star Wars are picking up. The first run of Amazing Spider-Man seeing some love.
