Wookey Jack was a very dark brown or auburn color and produced a thick, foamy, mocha colored head that lasted for a very long time.  Despite being a black IPA, it looked like a stout when poured.  When I gave it a whiff, I found it gave off a strong hoppy and piney scent with some light aromas of rye and caramel, too.  There were also slight hints of licorice.

When I drank it, I found that the beer was very hoppy right out of the gate.  However, the hoppiness was followed by dark chocolate and citrus flavors, creating a really unique blend.  It also finished like a porter: smoky with roasted malts, coffee and some more chocolate.  On the palate, it felt thick but went down rather smoothly.

Overall, this was a fantastic beer.  The rye really added some character to it and the crazy mix of flavors made it delicious.  Highly recommended it, if you find it!

What to Drink This To:

Chewbacca remains without a doubt one of the most iconic film characters of all time.  Even though he didn't speak a lick of English, we all knew what Chewie was about.  That was why, years ago while in Barnes & Noble, I found the trade paperback collecting all of the Chewbacca tribute comics, and I felt like I got punched in the gut.  I grew up loving Chewbacca and was horrified to learn that he was killed off in the Star Wars universe.  I bought it and to this day, I still read it.  The book features some really great guest artist work from people like Brent Anderson and Dave Gibbons and every character's story really hits home.

So, yes, I am still sentimental over Chewbacca.

Raise your of Wookey Jack to the great Chewie!
