Green Team And The Movement – Was It All A Poll?

2013-02-07-GREENTEAM_MOVEMENT

Last year, DC Comics launched two series with a linked promotional campaign, The Movement and Green Team: Teen Trillionaires. Linked to the Occupy campaign, the latter was intended to represent the 1%, the former the 99%.

Both books have been cancelled, though The Movement has lasted a little longer with one or two comics yet to be published.

However, a little titbit reached me from DC Comics contacts regarding the origins of these two books.

As we presumed, they were devised as a response to Occupy being prominent in the media in the months previously. And there was debate over where DC Comics should lie on the matter. Comics can often be seen as counter-culture, but they are owned by one of the world's biggest multi-media conglomerates. So rather than choosing they went for two comics illustrating both sides of the divide and seeing which readers favoured.

The answer seems neither, but The Movement at a push. Seems that readers would rather read less political comics featuring the superheroes of their childhood, and politics be damned…
