The Walking Dead #121 Is The End Of Empire Strikes Back

It's interesting to see how the Walking Dead TV show and comic seems to intertwine, their separate continuities nevertheless bringing moments of synchronicity. So when The Governor was all the rage on the TV, so the comic had Negan. And now as the prison in the TV show has been blown up, so Rick's home in the comic series also befell a similar fate.

And yes, there are deaths.

There are strong differences though. In the TV series, it feels like a fresh beginning for all the characters, now spread in a disparate fashion. In the comic though, this is just one part of the ongoing story. There is the chance to regroup, the chance to fight – and someone to fight. The TV series took away the Governor, the comic book keeps Negan alive and ticking. And a constant threat.

Because The Walking Dead #121 is more like Empire Strikes Back. Everyone is defeated by the bad guys, not just lives but a way of life has been taken away. There is a similar shade of doom and despondency between the TV show and the comic, of going away and giving up…

But in the comic, there is still a target, one to rally around to defeat. In the TV show, they don't even have that.

Also, you know, Rick's lost his hand.

Roll on Return Of The Walking Deadi.
