What Is Up With MailOrderComics.Com? (UPDATE)

MailOrderComics.com is a popular online comic book seller, which, as the name suggests, specializes in sending comics by mail order to those who want them. Whether back issues or regular standing orders, it has a good reputation.

Or at least it had.

The website is currently showing most stock as unavailable, people haven't been receiving their orders and no responses have been made to inquiries.

The company's Facebook page has complaints along the lines of,

Brandon M Machler Hey there, is there any technical difficulties going on for anyone else on the site? I haven't been able to view or buy any books all weekend. Seems like the whole catalog is gone. Not sure if it's just me, or something more…

John Wise Brandon, as far as I know, EVERYONE is having issues. My cart is empty, but I still have a total. The also seems to be missing ALL of their stock. I'm not sure if this is a technical issue or something else. There was a post started by customers on here, but it seems to be missing now. Hopefully this isn't a sign that they are closed (out of business).

Aaron Johnston Well if they are closing doors, let's hope (obviously) for follow through on existing order and some communication for customers to go elsewhere to get their orders. They have been a great company for years for me so I hope it is technical difficulties, but with post deleted and no official response it looks bad.

John Wise There was a post about this issue. And I came back to check to see if they posted what's going on, and it was deleted.

Andy Curto Is there something wrong with the site? I ask because everywhere i look it says "There are no products matching the selection." At first I thought it said it because I hadn't signed into my account yet, but I'm still seeing it after signing into my account.

Ray Brown Same exact situation, John. Previously loaded my pull list, but now my cart is empty and yet the site says I have a total of $142.63. I e-mailed and left a vm on Friday, have called at least once a day since and I can't get a response. No one even answers. Meanwhile, the site says orders are due in three days…

Carl Towns Alright-yesterday after they deleted the comments section I asked what happened and I got a brief response before that was deleted. They said they were having a rough week and hope to have an update Tuesday. So tomorrow hopefully we'll know.

Christopher Rasmussen I hope that the announcement includes how they plan to service existing paid orders. My orders are a lot smaller than they used to be, but going back a couple of months I still have $140 in outstanding items. I understand that they might be having a hard time, but I can't afford to just give them $140 out of the goodness of my heart and still have a two-month gap in my comic book collection. I wouldn't even mind if they waited until all of my items were in before shipping them in one go to save on shipping costs if it meant I would get my books.

John Wise I agree. I don't have $100's of dollars in paid orders, more like, around $40, but that's not the point. They need to make a statement on what's going on. Are they closed for good (as someone has stated here)? Is it a system glitch? We loyal customers deserve answers.

Christopher Juliano I agree! I'm so screwed if I have to hunt down the issues I would be missing!! They should do their customers right!

John Amgwert I was in their store Saturday and they had a sign posted that it was their last day of business. They had all comics for $1 (new and old) and all trades where half off. Asked the guy behind the counter if the mail order side of the business was closing too and he said yes, all of it. I'm sad to see it go. Glad I drove up to Omaha one last time to get some good deals on stuff. Had no idea when I pulled up to the store.

Christopher Juliano i was just told from another retailer that mailordercomics is no more and that diamond dropped them. I think that is just awful as well as awful for people like myself who do their purchasing thru them!!!

No responses were given to Bleeding Cool's email inquiries to the company. But, MailOrderComics.com did make one comment on their Facebook page yesterday – but only after deleting all the posts above.

I will have an announcement for everyone coming soon. Please be patient and I'll have answers for you as soon as I can.

Mitch

With people out hundreds of dollars, and some trying to get their credit cards and Paypal to refund them, it looks like it those answers can't come quickly enough. Maybe some outside investment might be able to help?

Well, while Mail Order Comics aren't talking, I have been made aware that a respected competitor is currently negotiating to see if customers unfilled orders can be filled without further cost to them.

Sit tight folks, and cross your fingers.

UPDATE: Minutes after posting, MailOrderComics.com gave people a minor updating, confirming what we reported. Known as the "Rich Twitch", I'm told…

We're working with another company to make fulfill all outstanding orders. We're working through the details and we're hoping to be able to fully inform you about what is going on with us very soon. I appreciate your business and patience!
