Another Dragon Tattoo Sequel From New Author Coming While Film Series Is Stalled

dragon-tattoo As a big fan of the books, I have mixed feelings about The AP's report that a new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo book is coming out.

The further adventures of investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist and goth hacker Lisbeth Salander will now be penned by I am Zlatan author David Lagercrantz, and it'll have nothing to do with late author Stieg Larsson's ideas about how the story should be continued.

Larsson died just before his first book was published and became a worldwide phenomenon, but rumors have always persisted that he had partially written a fourth book, with outlines for a series of up to ten books. Those may never see the light of day, but Norstedts, the Swedish publishers who released his first trilogy, is moving on without him.

And I don't know how to feel about it. The books certainly aren't masterpieces that can never be touched by anyone else, but I've always thought if they were to be continued, a new author would at least use Larsson's own ideas. Still, I'm excited to read more about Mikael and Lisbeth, and if the book sucks, we can always pretend it never existed since it's not by Larsson anyway.

Meanwhile, with every day that passes it seems more and more unlikely that we will ever see a sequel to David Fincher's masterful and definitive adaptation of Larsson's first book. A shame that we probably won't have the complete trilogy, and as Rooney Mara says, she's not getting any younger…
