Little Miss Sunshine Duo Directing Matthew Quick's The Good Luck Of Right Now

goodluckofrightnow Matthew Quick's novels have become a hot commodity in Hollywood ever since Silver Linings Playbook became a major success at the box office and garnered a bunch of Oscar nominations and one win for Jennifer Lawrence. Luckily, his books are fantastic.

Variety reports directing duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who did Little Miss Sunshine and most recently Ruby Sparks, have signed on to direct Quick's next novel, The Good Luck of Right Now, which comes out next February.

The book centers on Bartholomew Neil, who finds himself adrift after his Richard Gere-obsessed mother dies. Together with his family's alcoholic priest, an unpredictable support group buddy prone to expletive-laden outbursts, and the shy librarian of his dreams, plus Richard Gere himself, sort of (how they pull that off will be interesting to see), they go on a road trip that's, naturally, more a journey of self-discovery and healing.

I like the book slightly less than The Silver Linings Playbook, but it is still full of the same kind of funny, quirky, broken characters thats ripe for the big screen treatment. It's also got that perfect mix of darkness and comedy that Dayton and Faris have shown sure-footed aptitude for in their previous two films, so this is a great choice for both parties.

But the Quick adaptation I'm most looking forward to is Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, which is much darker and being scripted by James Ponsoldt in what seems like another perfect match-up.
