Effective First Teaser For British Prison Drama Starred Up

British cinema seems littered with a number of ‘hard-men’ features that fill up DVD bargain bins in supermarkets and make little impact abroad. It creates a kind of bias in a lot of audiences that turns them off anything that looks a little like that.

I think Dexter Fletcher’s wonderful Wild Bill suffered somewhat from this and I wouldn’t be surprised if Starred Up has the similar difficulties in shaking off those preconceptions.

This first teaser certainly does a good job of distancing the film from that sort of fare though. Atmospheric, intriguing and bleak this looks like a very interesting film indeed.

Warning, lots of NSFW language in this short teaser.
