Booze Geek: Dragonstooth Stout

Beer: Dragonstooth Stout

Brewery: Elysian Brewing Co.

My journey into the land of stouts continues with Elysian's Dragonstooth Stout.

Dragonstooth produces a thick head that is a mocha color and remains after being poured. The body has a dark finish and, like most stouts, you cannot see through it. Dragonstooth produces prominent chocolaty aromas.

I found that Dragonstooth is not quite as potent as some stouts. That being said, I found it to be quite tasty. Coffee and chocolate flavors are certainly present. Perhaps its best feature is its aftertaste. The smokiness from the roasted malts combined with a coffee flavor creates a very fine taste. On the palate, it is very smooth and comfortable.

Overall, I really liked this stout and found it to be highly drinkable. As I stated, it is not as potent as some stouts, but I think that works to its advantage. Highly recommended.

What to Drink This To:

Game of Thrones seems like the obvious choice to have a bottle of Dragonstooth with, either watching the show or reading the books. But if you want to dial the clock back a little, I would say break open your copy of The Hobbit to the great exchange between Bilbo and Smaug. Alternatively, you can find the scene from the animated movie, which I find to be very, very good.
